Monicas Studio

Monica Baustert-Sweetser, is a native Vermonter who studied at Pratt Institute in New York, as well as the University of New Mexico. After her studies, she returned to Vermont to raise a family and continue her work in graphite studies. Monica finds working in graphite to be the most satisfying medium. Graphite enables her to have a simpler and more immediate relationship with her subjects and allows her to better see the architectural elements of them. Monica works from her home studio, an historical post and beam barn overlooking the Adirondak Mountains.

Monica has always focused her work on the natural world and its unique subjects. Over the last few years, she has refined her art to reflect their subtle beauty and considers each piece an exercise in meditation. Monica prefers to work from life. She connects intimately with her deceptively simple subjects, exploring in delicate detail the awe she has for the life within and the mystery of the larger universe. Finding the profound in the overlooked is how Monica views the process of her work.
